What is Google Lens?
Google Lens is a helpful AI-oriented software tool that has transformed the conventional understanding of search engines since its development in 2017. Created by Google as an in-built feature, Google lens intricately scans images and provides its user with relevant information that pertains to the searched image. The software however isn’t limited to images alone as text, objects, and websites can be scanned as well. Just initiate and watch it work its magic. In addition, despite its initial rollout exclusive to just iOS and Android devices, it recently become available on PC as well.
Who Benefits From Using Google Lens
Everyone from all works of life stands to benefit from the software; from freelancers and small businesses to medium businesses. This simplified AI solution serves as a way out of ails that would necessarily plague businesses; like time wasting, loss of data, etc.
Features Of Google Lens
Imagine you’re a hiker right, and you spot an insect that is unlike something you’ve ever seen, by pointing your camera at it and hitting the Lens option integrated into Google, you can easily find out all there is to know about that insect. In a business instance, you can scan real-life documents and send them to your personal computer with ease. Other uses include;
- Translate: Language barriers between employees and foreign employers becomes a thing of the past thanks to the translation capability of the Lens and the Google translate plugin.
- Live Text Selection: If you’re the type to first jot down your thoughts before typing, then saves you the stress of having to type all over again. By pointing your smartphone camera at the text, Lens highlights the text and gives you the option to copy it straight to your clipboard.
- Smart Text Search: As an addition to the previously mentions point, you can look up definitions and pronunciations of words you come across in a business brief or memo.
- Search Everything: Your mind is the limit when it comes to what you can search using Lens. You can scan food for recipes, animals, and your surroundings; like landmarks and a whole lot more.
- Solve Homework Equations: You can Google assignments and watch the lens cook up helpful solutions.
- Shopping: You see a dress you like on the internet and you’d like more information about it, just scan it and viola!
- Have Texts Read To You: Lengthy documents from the real world can be read to you with Lens while you carry on with other things
- Bookmark An Event: By scanning anything with a date involved; let’s say a wedding invitation, you have the option of adding it to your digital calendar.
- Saving Contact Information: Save yourself the hassle of piling up business cards in your wallet, by opening Lens and pointing it to the card, you can quickly add the information to your contact.
- Scan QR codes: You can scan barcode information easily as opposed to downloading third-party applications.
Using Google Lens on PC
Using Lens on your personal computer is nothing like using it on a smartphone seen as the megapixels aren’t sharp enough to pick up the details needed to run the lens. But don’t let that discourage you as you can still get the best out of the tool. It is possible to search for visual matches with images on other websites or on your computer. In addition, you can scan text from an image with Google Lens on your PC.
Pricing & Plans
A software that packs a punch as Google Lens does should cost a fortune. But interestingly, there aren’t any plans nor are there pricing. It is absolutely free! It comes as a stand-alone application on the Play Store. and as an extension on the Google app in the app store for iOS devices.
While on PC, you can save it as a Google Chrome extension and use it by right-clicking and selecting “Scan with Google Lens.”
Pros & Cons
While this software seems like the be-all and end-all, it is not without certain things that stop it from being 100% perfect and in this section we explore them…but first, the Pros.
1) For people who like to travel and visit new places, Google Lens can be very useful. Let’s say as an American-speaking tourist, your air miles take you to Paris. Of course, your french is not so great but you need to see the sights, read the menu at a restaurant or find out what the signs say, the Lens can come to your rescue.
2) Community between devices with the help of Google Lens, you can scan the link and use your mobile phone to continue browsing. This feature is very helpful when you are browsing for something on your computer and you come across the need to immediately switch to your smartphone.
3) One advantage of using Google Lens is that it can be used to search for products. For example, if you see a pair of shoes that you like, you can take a picture of them and use Google Lens to search for them online. This can be helpful if you’re trying to find a specific product or if you’re looking for the best deal on a product.
Another advantage of Google Lens is that it can be used to identify plants and animals. For example, if you see a plant that you don’t recognize, you can take a picture of it and use Google Lens to find out what it is. This can be helpful if you’re trying to identify a plant or if you’re trying to learn more about a particular species of plant or animal.
4) With Google Lens, you can quickly and easily scan album covers and get the information you need about them. This can be a great help if you’re trying to figure out which album is which, or if you’re looking for more information about a particular album. With Google Lens, all you need to do is point your camera at the album cover and you’ll get the information you need in an instant. This can be a great time saver, especially if you’re trying to figure out a lot of different albums. Thanks to Google Lens, you can save yourself a lot of time and hassle when it comes to getting information about album covers.
1) While Google Lens is one of the most accurate tools around, it can’t always give you 100% certainty. Studies show that through 90-92%, google lens will get your answer right on point! So while it’s great for basic needs like identifying objects or making payments with eyes-free use (no more need to type!), don’t rely fully upon this feature as there may be some uncertainty involved in these automated responses
2) Google lens is an innovative way to see what’s on the other side of something you’re pointing at. But without a strong internet connection, it can be difficult for this technology and software system to work effectively.
3) When using Google Lens, be aware that it will continue collecting your information. If you are not comfortable with this and want to use another service instead then there’s always the option of turning off lens services through settings on mobile devices or computers!
Conclusion
Google Lens can make your smartphone smarter and do many things for you. If it’s not too much trouble, we recommend downloading this exciting app onto the device of choice because there are some drawbacks associated with its use but overall people seem happy enough!
